The British Kung Fu Association

Grandmaster Yau established the British Kung Fu Association in 1972 and, for over 50 years, it has been providing support, advice and guidance to Lau Gar students and instructors.

The Association specialises in traditional Lau Gar kung fu, kickboxing and self-defence training, alongside instructor development, grading pathways and national training events. Where required, we also prepare students for the competitive sport of kickboxing.

We preserve the authenticity of the Lau Gar style through an engaged community of martial arts experts. This enables us to support instructors, clubs and students who want authentic training rooted in clear lineage.

We provide:

  • nationally led structured training

  • high, consistent standards

  • grading pathways and qualifications

  • instructor development and support

  • a national network of affiliated clubs.

Our work spans the sports, fitness, health and wellbeing sectors, supporting practitioners of all ages to build skills, confidence and community through martial arts.

We help local clubs deliver safe, high-quality teaching that keeps students engaged.

The British Kung Fu Association (BKFA) is the custodian of Lau Gar kung and kickboxing and operates across England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

Our Values:

Inclusive: We create safe and welcoming training environments for students of all ages and abilities.

Purposeful: We teach Lau Gar as a pathway to discipline, confidence, resilience and a host of other valuable life skills.
